Good news from the Bad News Boys themselves! The King Kahn & BBQ Show show are back (under the same name) with their first album since 2009’s fantastic animal party of a soulful garage banger, Invisible Girl.
The record is now streaming in full via In The Red Records – read on for the full stream, vinyl release info, tour dates, and our first thoughts on what is likely to be one of our fave albums of the year!
The Montreal-based two piece of King Kahn (also of The Shrines) and Mark Sultan (aka BBQ Show) masterfully blend the fuzz of garage rock with the soul and passion of old skool doo-wop, all while leaving you wondering whether you can take these goofy punks seriously.
Opening track, “Alone Again” shows the dudes pick up exactly where Invisible Girl left off – catchy as hell and likely to make you want to do a little wiggle. The one two combo of “Bye Bye Bahi” and “D.F.O.” is really great – you feel the full range of soul-power from Mr. Sultan’s memorizing vocals juxtaposed against a raucous, thrashing punk track with a chorus of “Diarrhea Fuck Off” that would fit in just fine on a Cerebral Ballzy album. Bad News Boys rounds out nicely with “Killing The Wolfman” taking cues from Dead Kennedy‘s “Chemical Warefare,” and “Snacking After Midnight” reminding you it’s okay to laugh.
Bad News Boys is set for official release by In The Red on February 24, but pre-orders should be up very soon! This will certainly be an essential record for any Cool-Tite collection!
